No this isn't an advertorial, just something I found a bit weird.

I received an email from Avanti Plus about their big clearance sale; they're clearing out lots of Specialized accessories and clothing. When I saw the prices I decided I should get some road shoes but I wasn't really willing to buy them online in case the fit wasn't right.

I do have some Specialized MTB shoes but it'd be just my luck that the sizing would differ. So I wandered down to the local Avanti Plus shop during my lunch break and asked if the specials applied instore.

"No they don't" was the reply. Apparently he'd been asked that quite a few times during the past couple of days.

I was gobsmacked. What a strange business setup where the central office can hold a big online sale and undercut their own stores.

The salesman I spoke to was very helpful and I went back to the office to order a pair of shoes. I felt a bit guilty about my tire-kicking but we did chat about a few other things.

The strange thing is that I don't actually own a road bike. But I am planning to buy one soon, so I may as well take advantage of the sale to get the shoes now. My MTB shoes fit really well so I'm sure I'll be happy with the road ones as well.

If only I'd had the cash to drop on one of the half-price Specialized bikes they had... pity they were all super high-end models, way out of my league even at half price. I wonder if they'd sponsor me

Hi. Im looking to get into mountain biking next year. saving for a bike as well so waiting for end of year sales. But I would like to do dualtons off road and i am debating whether or not to get MTB shoes or just race with my running shoes. Since you have brought new MTB shoes i thought I would get you opinion on the shoes. Thank you

It's definitely cheaper to go with the running shoes but once you get the cleated MTB shoes you'll never go back. They have very stiff soles which make your pedalling that much more effective.
