The track starts at the Cardrona River Mouth reserve and winds along the Clutha River/Mata-Au to historic Reko's Point Conservation Area near Luggate. A fascinating feature is the network of gold mining workings including an historic hut from the 1870s. Close to the start is a footbridge that crosses the Cardrona River which may cause slight congestion before the track widens through woodland. A steep climb takes competitiors to an exposed area of the track through the Bluffs before undulating alongside the Clutha River to the finish line near Luggate.

The Riverrun Trail Series is designed to encourage people to stay fit and healthy throughout the year and to set personal goals. Runners and walkers can enter individual races or all three and compete for the John Pawson Trophy.

The Series is open to all competitors and has two categories; open and vet. To determine the Series winners the times for all three events will be added together.
