The Vulcaniser course is located in very picturesque countryside overlooking the coast with views across Pegasus Bay towards Banks Peninsula, to the Southern Alps and along the North Canterbury coast towards Motunau Island.

Each 5 km lap has an altitude gain of about 300m and due to the energy-sapping terrain, takes the fastest riders about 20-22 minutes to get around. The course is quite challenging at race-pace due to the narrow twisty forest singletrack and constant change from uphill to downhill and back again, which gives little opportunity to rest your legs. It is the sort of course that requires you to stay very alert and that challenges you both physically and mentally, but is very fun to ride. Around 3km of the course is hand-built MTB singletrack, mostly through native forest and scrub.

Mountain Running and Walking at its very best with spectacular 360° views of the Kaikoura and Amuri Ranges, the Pacific Ocean and down the Waiau Valley.

This event includes:

  • Vasque Mt Terako Exterme Challenge (NZ's most challenging adventure run)
  • Mt Lyford Classic Challenge
  • SWAZI Farmers Challenge
  • De Kikker Vijver Lodge Bushline Challenge
  • SWAZI Junior Challenge

This is adventure running at its very best in fact this is extreme adventure racing! Over a course of 22km with an 1140m climb, much of the route follows the mountain ridge including Mt Hawtry where the track is not well marked and requires good navigational skills, the Vasque - Extreme Mt Lowry Challenge is for experienced adventure racers and mountain runners only.

Also includes the Mt Lowry Classic Challenge & SWAZI Junior Challenge.

Saturday 20th March, 2010 is the date for the 7th Auckland Half Ironman. Over the last six years there has been steady growth in the fields with many choosing the Auckland Half Ironman as their first event over the distance.

The race starts at Maraetai with a 2km swim and is followed by a 90km bike that covers much of the old Auckland Ironman bike course. It finishes with a 21km three lap picturesque run around the foreshore of the Hauraki Gulf.

Based in downtown Christchurch, with the start/finish line amidst the café, casino, shopping and accommodation districts, the SBS Marathon Event has become a popular mid-winter getaway for runners and walkers all over New Zealand.

With a full marathon, a half marathon for runners and walkers, a 10km fun run and a Kids Mara'fun, this festival of fitness has something for everyone.

A $40,000 prize pool makes it New Zealand's richest running event, but with more than $15,000 in spot prizes and a huge range of categories, this event caters for runners and walkers of all age, ability and aspirations.

Starting in the Millbrook area competitors will descend via the newly gazetted Wakatipu Trails Trust track, and follow to cross Speargrass Flat Rd and ascend Slope Hill Road. Continue on Slope Hill Road to descend via lower Shotover Rd and Domain Rd onto the scenic single track that follows the true left bank of the Shotover River.

Across the restored Shotover Bridge and follow gravel road and 4*4 tracks to the Shotover delta before joining the Kawarau river track and then across the Kawarau River Bridge

One kilometer of highway riding will have the riders approach the scenic and private Kawarau River Road down the true right bank. A gently undulating ride will bring riders to the finish line at the Chard farm winery with bbq and band.

the course traverses a 101km circuit through some of the most stunning scenery New Zealand has to offer. From the Forrest Estate Winery stone wall in the capital of the New Zealand wine industry, Renwick, it's a flat route to Blenheim. Riders then head north and gently climb into Picton with an exhilarating descent into the centre of the town. Climbing out of Picton, the route follows the picturesque Queen Charlotte Drive around the head of Queen Charlotte and Pelorus Sounds, literally a ride through nature's photo album. The stunning scenery of Ngakuta and Momorangi Bays passes as the ride winds and twists to The Grove.

A flat ride to Linkwater leads onto Mahakipawa hill and more breathtaking scenery, followed by a descent to the outskirts of the mussel capital, Havelock. Left turn onto SH 6 and it's homeward bound across gently rolling terrain, hopefully with the prevailing breeze at your back (we hope) and home to Renwick. Off the bike and you're in the grapes with our celebrity guests, treading grapes for processing into an exclusive Forrest Estate vintage for next year's event.

The event starts at 8am in the English setting of Christchurch and finishes in the French village of Akaroa.

The Shoe Clinic Avalanche Peak Challenge is a true mountain run in every sense. With razor-backed ridges, snow-capped peaks and huge scree slopes, the 25k run or tramp across the northern tip of the Southern Alps is a challenge not to be missed. But don't take our word for it... Experience the Avalanche Peak Challenge yourself.

The Multisport event starts with a 42km road cycle which loops from Bethells beach through the northern end of the Waitakere ranges. Next is a short 1.5km run up and over the massive sand dune - this part of the course is obviously where the event got it’s name from - to Lake Wainamu for the third leg, a 10km flat water paddle around the beautiful lake. The fourth leg is a 10km run first through a stream, then along a trail climbing above Bethells with incredible views of the West Coast. The trail continues on and pops out at O'Neils beach from where competitors follow the beach back towards the finish line at the reserve.

Make sure you are part of this outstanding off road 1/2 marathon through the spectacular Whakarewarewa Forest. The event is a two lap course utilising scenic trails and smooth gravel forest roads. It is expected that there will be 1500-2000 competitors taking part. Entrants must be 13 years of age or older on event day.

100k, what a fantastic milestone! You will ride through magnificent countryside from one world famous tourist destination to another using private sealed forestry roads, SH5, peaceful country roads and even parts of the famous Ironman course finishing inside the Taupo Events Centre.
