Jonathan Wyatt won the annual LGT mountain running marathon in Vaduz on Saturday. Wyatt covered the 42.2km which rose 1800m and fell 600m in 3h 1m 0s, beating Martin Schedler by nearly 11 minutes.

The previous week in Merano Italy Wyatt won the Merano 2000 14km rising 1650m in 1h 16m 15s. Last year Wyatt won the Merano in a race record time of 1h 15m 58s.
This Sunday Wyatt will compete in the Monte Faldo mountain race in Italy, followed by the Nerivue Moleson race in Switzerland on 20 June.

NORTH SHORE

Julia Ratcliffe warmed up for the World Youth Championships in emphatic style throwing the hammer 55.64m. This is nearly three metres further than her New Zealand W16 record set at the New Zealand championships in Wellington in March. Three quarters of an hour later Ratcliffe had a further competition at Sovereign Stadium this time sending the hammer out to 55.46m. Jessica Charlesworth was second with 53.52m and Millie McNie third with 44.96m.

Fourteen year old Jacko Gill excelled with the 5kg shot clearing 18.20m, 18cm short of Tom Walsh's New Zealand M16 record. Nicolas Gerrard was second with 14.91m and Veronica Torr with the 4kg shot was third with 10.27m.

In the sprints, Livvy Wilson won the 60m in 7.93s and the 100m in 12.70s. Frazer Wickes won the same double in 7.36s and 11.67s. Competing in the men's race Monique Williams recorded 7.56s over 60m and 11.86s in the 100m.

CHRISTCHURCH

Holloway Memorial Cross Country Races

Richard Bennett outran all others in the combined masters/senior 12km race held at West Eyreton on Saturday. Bennett in the 40-44 age group recorded 37m 53s, to beat Kerry Faass by over two minutes. Axel Reiser was third in the masters in 40m 59s. Martin Lukes won the senior race in 40m 52s, with Paul Robinson second in 41m 14s.

Aine Hoban won the women's 8km in 29m 57s. Alicia Evans was second in 30m 36s with Julia Grant third in 30m 46s. Kath Atkin won the masters 8km in 31m 36s.

Nick Rennie won the M19 8km in 26m 9s, the W19 4km went to Angie Smit in 14m 24s, while Margot Gibson won the W16 4km in 14m 23s. Jake Stamper was the best in the M16 8km running 26m 51s.

DUNEDIN

Edmond Cup Races

Callan Moody of Ariki won the senior men's 8.8km cross country race in 36m 39s at Wingatui Racecourse on Saturday. Competing in bitterly cold conditions, hail and sleet, Moody just held out team mate Nathan Baxter by two seconds in a tight finish. Lyndon Brown of Caversham was third in 36m 54s, three seconds ahead of Oliver O'Sullivan who in turn was one second ahead of Tony Payne. The Ariki team of Moody, Baxter, Stafford Thompson, Chris Weddell, Simon Kerr and Tim Dobier won the teams competition.

Kirsty Morris of Leith won the women's 4.4km race in 20m 30s, beating Sue Cuthbert 21m 14s and Greta Knarston 21m 45s. Leith with Morris, Cuthbert and Rosie Hodson easily won the teams race.

Campbell Garry won the M19 4.4km in 17m 27s from Ben Anderson 17m 50s, with Barbara Roy leading in the W19 4.4km in 19m 40s from Andrea Peat 21m 44s. The 16 grade winners were Toby Batchelor in 18m 23s for the 4.4km and Becky Greene with a time of 9m 44s over 2.2km.
